Hey folks,

My name is Jesse and my motto is “Learn to build it. Build it. Teach someone to build it”. My hope is to bring you woodworking and DIY content that will help you learn and grow as a maker.

My passion for woodworking started in 2010 in my garage turned woodshop. I purchased a small miter and table saw, along with a few other basic Harbor Freight tools, and dove in. My first project was a toy box, for my daughter, that I made using instructional videos from the Lowes website. It wasn’t long before I discovered Jay Bates and Marc Spagnoulo on Youtube and I was hooked.

In 2014 my family and I moved into our current house just outside of Nashville, TN. I promised my wonderful wife that I would build her a dining room table if she let me use our two car garage as my woodshop. Since then, I have been filling my ever evolving shop with whatever tools I could afford and whatever shop furniture I could build. In order to diversify my woodworking knowledge I have strived to build and try new things, even if it seemed above my skill level. I love using old school hand tools as much as I love using the new and improved.

Since moving into our current home I have had the fortune of meeting my good friend and neighbor, James. As a retired pharmacist James took up woodworking and has made some incredible pieces in his time. He has been gracious enough to pass on his woodworking knowledge to me over the years with the agreement that I will always be willing to teach those who want to learn. My motto came from him and I will always strive to abide by it.

In the summer of 2018, my woodshop was looking pretty good, and I had started to expand my woodworking skills. I soon discovered the woodworking community on instagram, through my personal account, just watching from the sidelines. I enjoyed learning from different people seeing new and different ways to doing things in the shop. In September of 2018 I decided to start my own woodworking dedicated Instagram feed and join the community. It only took me a few seconds to come up with the name, Penalty Box Woodshop. My family ran a bar in the 1990’s that was named The Penalty Box and it seemed to be a no brainer for me. My only goal for the feed was to post quality photographs and videos that would hopefully help or encourage someone interested in woodworking. I have since grown my social media presence to Youtube, Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter. I love hearing from all of you so make sure to say hey in the comments of any of my posts!

Thank you,

Jesse P.
